If you look in most people’s kitchens, you can find that wonderful smelling citrus fruit the lemon. Lemons are not only a great additive for baking and cooking but they have several other uses as well. A lemon’s entire contents can be used in several facets of life including culinary uses, household cleaning, as a freshener and even as a health aid.

Rich in vitamins and minerals

Most frequently recognized by their bright yellow and tart & sour taste, the lemon is part of the citrus family. These are known for being full of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, calcium and magnesium. These vitamins and minerals are essential for collagen production, wound recovery, immune function and fighting against diseases such as cancer and other degenerative diseases. Additionally, lemons are one of the many foods that contain antioxidants which fight against free radicals in the body.

Originally discovered in India, lemons slowly made their way to America in the 15th. Since then, lemons have become more than an ornamental plant and are used widely for their health benefits. There are many health benefits of lemons and several ways in which they can be used or consumed. Some of the health benefits include digestion, diuretics, detox, hair care, dental aid, soothe sore throats, weight loss and fever reduction. A lemon’s parts include its pulp, juice and rind. For health benefits, lemon juice and pulp are primarily used the rind is usually used in culinary settings and as a garnish.
